SPOT CHECK: SABRINA SKYROCKETS TO #1, WEEZY AND ADDISON MAKE BIG MOVES
Man, what a debut.
Sabrina Carpenter's deliciously spiky "Manchild" (Island) shoots to #1 on both Spotify global and U.S., racking up a whopping 8m+ streams. The early Song of the Summer favorite, co-written by Sab's all-star collaborators Amy Allen and Jack Antonoff, leads a gaggle of Carpenter tunes (among them "Taste" and "Please Please Please") that make chart leaps on the heels of "Manchild"'s romp. And if you haven't seen it, peep the video (below), in which Carpenter delivers a Best Actress in a Comedy-worthy performance.
Lil Wayne's Tha Carter VI (Cash Money/Republic) has finally arrived, with a raft of special guests, including BigXthaPlug, Bono, mgk, Jelly Roll and 2 Chainz, and a flood of entries on the Spotify U.S. chart. Led on Saturday (6/7) by "Welcome to the Carter" at #9, Weezy has four songs in the Top 20 and 11 in the Top 75. His Live Nation arena tour, booked by UTA's Mike G, began on Friday (6/6) at Madison Square Garden. Wayne, along with Morgan Wallen (Big Loud/Mercury/Republic), also dominates the Top 10 at Apple Music.
Looking for the next pop queen? Columbia's Addison Rae is making a legit claim to the throne as her "Fame Is a Gun," from new album Addison, rockets 106 spots to #31 global and 49 berths to #20 U.S. Three other new Addison tracks debut in or around the Top 100 U.S., and last year's "Diet Pepsi" re-enters at #69 U.S. and #83 global.
A couple of other notable appearances: Ed Sheeran's "Sapphire" (Atlantic) debuts at #30 global, and Jessie Murph's wonderfully Winehouse-ian "Touch Me Like a Gangster" (Columbia), from her 7/18 album, Sex Hysteria, drops in at #61 U.S.
Now, if you'll excuse us, it's time to drop in to our mid-morning nap.
