THE "SOUND" OF LATIN AMERICA: OVY ON THE DRUMS
Westcol, Beéle, Ovy on the Drums
Colombia's Ovy on the Drums, who rose to prominence as KAROL G’s longtime collaborator, recently climbed to the top of the producer ranks as an artist, crossing 29m monthly listeners on Spotify to become the most-listened-to Latin producer on the platform, surpassing fellow global hitmakers Bizarrap, Tainy and Alok.
The #1 status arrives courtesy of W Sound, a partnership with Columbian content streamer Westcol. W Sound launched the 100m-streamed “Soltera” f/Blessd onto Spotify’s global Top 200 and followed it up with “La Plena – W Sound 05” f/Beéle, currently in the Top 25 worldwide. “La Plena” hit #1 in Colombia, Spain. Venezuela and other territories. Ovy also produced and is a featured artist on Beéle’s “Mi Refe,” presently residing in the Top 100 global.
"Seeing that I’m now the most-listened-to Latin producer on Spotify is still hard to believe. It’s the result of countless hours in the studio, of taking risks and trusting what I feel."
“I’ve never made music thinking about rankings—I create in hopes of connecting with people,” Ovy on the Drums tells HITS. “Seeing that I’m now the most-listened-to Latin producer on Spotify is still hard to believe. It’s the result of countless hours in the studio, of taking risks and trusting what I feel. This achievement belongs to everyone who believed in my sound from day one. And this is just the beginning.”
In 2022, while Ovy was working on KAROL G's Grammy-winning MAÑANA SERÁ BONITO, home to “TQG,” a collab with Shakira, he signed an artist deal with Warner Music Latina—one of the first major signings by Alejandro Duque after he was named president of Warner Music, Latin America.
Since joining WMG, Ovy has issued, among other projects, the EP CASSETTE 01 with WML's Myke Towers and on 3/13, CASSETTE 02, featuring rising artists from Chile. Ovy was also an essential collaborator in the development of Blessd, one of Columbia’s hottest new exports.
“Ovy on the Drums represents much more than chart success; he’s built a full cultural ecosystem that speaks to the immense diversity of Latin-music audiences today,” says WML Managing Director Roberto Andrade. “His sound resonates globally—uniting styles, generations and emotions. [His becoming the most-listened-to Latin producer on Spotify] is no accident; it’s the result of visionary artistry and unwavering commitment. At WML, we’re honored to stand alongside him. I’m also proud to call him a friend. To witness his journey up close has been nothing short of inspiring.”
