Fender Frolics on Jagger-Approved Stones Cover

Sam Fender has put a new spin on The Rolling Stones’ 1969 classic “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” for the 20th edition of U.K. retailer John Lewis’ Christmas advertising campaign.
Fender self-produced the rendition with bandmates Joe Atkinson and Dean Thompson. It was recorded with the choir from Fender’s former school, John Spence Community High School in North Shields, England, and sports brass contributions from the Easington Colliery Band.
“It was a privilege to rework such an iconic song by such a legendary band,” Fender said. Mick Jagger has, helpfully, also given his co-sign: “I’m a fan of Sam’s work, so I was pleased to hear he was covering one of my songs. I think he’s done a great job with it.”
It’s quite a way to wind down the year for Fender, who set a new U.K. chart record when his Olivia Dean collab “Rein Me In” spent 23 non-consecutive weeks at #1.
The artist recently announced his 2027 Proper Massive stadium tour, a 10-date summer run in the U.K., Ireland and Belgium that includes his biggest headlining shows to date: two nights at London’s Wembley Stadium on June 18 and 20.
Fender is also heavily rumored to be in the mix as a potential Glastonbury headliner.
