Olivia's sad Era Is Upon Us

June 12, 2026

Olivia Rodrigo officially enters her next era today with the release of you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, a sweeping, heart-on-fire collection that's being hailed as her most ambitious work to date.

Rodrigo has also unveiled the Mitch Ryan-directed video for "stupid song," filmed in New York and featuring choreography and appearances by New York City Ballet star Tiler Peck and dancers from both the NYC Ballet and American Ballet Theater.

The 13-song Geffen album, bearing contributions by regular collaborator Daniel Nigro and, on five cuts, Grammy-winning songwriter Amy Allen, arrives with serious momentum. Girl So in Love’s "drop dead" made Rodrigo the first artist ever to debut lead singles from their first three albums at #1, while follow-up "the cure" has also topped multiple charts. Meanwhile, Spotify recently honored Rodrigo at Billions Club Live after she became one of the platform's most-streamed artists, with nine songs surpassing 1b streams.

Critics are lining up behind the project, with Variety calling it “an audacious mix of raw vulnerability and high-concept pop” and the Los Angeles Times noting Rodrigo’s “sophisticated evolution, blending confessional intimacy with ambitious, arena-ready soundscapes.” NPR adds that the album “cements her as one of pop music’s most compelling storytellers” and Pitchfork says it’s "a heartbreaking account of an intense romance and its demise.”

The release caps a whirlwind stretch that included a surprise Primavera Sound appearance last weekend, where the WME-booked Rodrigo debuted "what's wrong with me" with The Cure's Robert Smith—the first featured-artist collab of her career.

Next up: the Live Nation-promoted Unraveled tour, which launches Sept. 25 in Hartford, Connecticut, having moved more than 1m tickets worldwide. The trek has expanded to record-setting residencies at New York's Barclays Center, Los Angeles' Intuit Dome and London's O2.
