The CountJAŸ-Z Wraps 30th Anniversary Run in L.A. With Snoop, Dre
Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre (Roc Nation)
JAŸ-Z brought out Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre Saturday night for a string of West Coast anthems during the second of his Los Angeles engagements at SoFi Stadium. The hometown heroes rattled off “The Next Episode,” “California Love,” “Nothin’ but a ‘G’ Thang” and “Still D.R.E.,” adding some Compton vibes to the proceedings.
Also featured on Saturday was Bay Area rap vet Too $hort, who joined Hov for “Blow the Whistle.”
The two-night stand concluded JAŸ-Z30, a run of sold-out shows that also hit New York, London and Paris to mark the 30th anniversary of Jay-Z's seminal 1996 debut album, Reasonable Doubt.
On Friday, Jay’s daughter Blue Ivy Carter guested on piano for “The Story of O.J.” and “Dead Presidents”; Geto Boys rapper Scarface came onstage for “This Can’t Be Life” and “Mind Playing Tricks on Me”; and John Legend and DJ Khaled teamed for the show-closing “God Did.”
The Roc Nation boss closed Saturday’s gig with a seemingly impromptu speech about the dangers of artificial intelligence.
"Y'all gotta be very aware of what's going on in the world, right? People will tell you that nobody was in here tonight, but you got eyes. You can see,” he said in apparent reference to AI-fueled reports about attendance at prior JAŸ-Z30 shows. “People will tell you that the music wasn't great, but you got ears.”
The umlaüted artist did not address rumors that he’ll be headlining the next Super Bowl halftime show.
