Sandbox's Lucia Kaminsky
What was the first concert you ever attended?
The Rolling Stones' Bridges of Babylon Tour with openers Smashing Pumpkins, Dave Matthews Band and Third Eye Blind, December 1997. This was The Stones’ final show at Miami's Orange Bowl. My mom’s friend, who worked at The Miami Herald, asked me to write an article about it. It was called “Going to a Concert With Mom” and explored the generational contrast of us attending the same show for very different reasons—she was there for the Rolling Stones, and I was there for the Smashing Pumpkins. I was 13.
You can go back in time and see any concert. Whom would you see and which year/era?
Queen at Live Aid. I’ve watched clips of that show hundreds of times. Freddie Mercury remains one of the best performers of our time.
Describe your all-time-favorite photo, memento or tchotchke from your job.
These aren’t from my own work, but I have a collection of vinyl records from my father’s time in the music industry—Latin American pressings of artists like Black Sabbath, Marvin Gaye, Donna Summer, KISS and more. I found some of them over the years in flea markets and record shops throughout Latin America. They now hang in my living room as a reminder of where I come from and the legacy that brought me here. I hope someday my daughter will want to do the same with my work.
