Managers do it all. Things they have a hand in include—but are not limited to—shopping for deals, advising on records, approving syncs, strategizing TV looks, scoping out tours and festivals, pondering brand extensions… We get exhausted just thinking about it. That’s why our upcoming live special will focus on these tireless champions of their clients’ needs, wants and whims.
To get to know the managers better, we asked them to fill out our farkakteh questionnaire. Also, because they really needed something else to do.

What was the first concert you ever attended?
The Beatles in 1964 at Finsbury Park Astoria in North London. I was 12 years old and I couldn’t hear a word because the girls were screaming so loud. In that moment, I realized this is what I have to do.
You can go back in time and see any concert. Whom would you see and when?
Elvis Presley during the “Jailhouse Rock” era. He never toured in the U.K. so I never got to see him.
What’s the single biggest change in a manager’s responsibilities since you started in the biz?
We’re now managing the band’s expectations, rather than managing the band.
Name a manager not in your company whom you admire.
I’ve always leaned towards the old guards who were inventing this business as it went along, in particular Irving Azoff. He always cuts to the chase and just like a chess master, he’s always five or six moves ahead of the game.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Irving has always said your imagination is way worse than the reality. When you have some bad news to deliver, just cut to the case and do it. Don’t let it bounce around in your head. It will cause unnecessary sleepless nights.
