You can go back in time and see any concert. Whom would you see and when?
Led Zeppelin in the ‘70s. I have seen (and worked with) Jimmy Page and seen Robert Plant, but the original would be a dream come true.
What’s the single biggest change in a manager’s responsibilities since you started in the biz?
You used to need a label to do all the heavy lifting on marketing, distribution and so much more. Now you just need to have a strong staff that knows what they are doing.
Name a manager not in your company whom you admire.
The first one that comes to mind is Dino Paredes. He’s incredibly smart and so committed to his artists. I have seen him do things that few others could pull off. A few others who deliver big for their artists are Diarmuid Quinn, John Silva and Rick Sales.
Describe your all-time-favorite photo, memento or tchotchke from your job.
One of my favorites is a Slash guitar that he played backwards in the Jaws tank for the Guns N’ Roses “Estranged” video. Ironically, a few years ago, a guy broke into our office and stole a bunch of guitars, but somehow he left that one on the wall.
You’re made czar of the concert industry. What’s the first thing you’d change?
Do a better job of dealing with scalpers and bots. Go back to running ticket sweeps and cancel any potentially suspicious purchases. Fans want tickets at fair prices whenever possible.
