Disruptor's Sam Lockhart
What was the first concert you ever attended?
Fountains of Wayne opening for N.E.R.D. at American University in D.C. I was about 10 years old, and after the show Pharrell autographed his hat and threw it to me. I still have it to this day.
Name a manager not in your company whom you admire.
When I was just starting in music, two things stuck with me: watching Scooter Braun’s Complex Blueprint interview on YouTube and reading Supermensch, Shep Gordon’s autobiography. Hearing about their constant hustle and willingness to take risks was inspiring.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Probably from my dad. Simple, but he constantly reminded me: “Never sell yourself short.” It’s been the compass for every big decision I’ve made—a reminder to know your worth and push beyond your comfort zone.
