Victory Formation: 2025 Final Market-Share Tally

December 15, 2025

Hail to the Chiefs: Sir Lucian Grainge, Rob Stringer and Robert Kyncl

For Sir Lucian Grainge, the Lipman bros and John Janick, the best surprise is no surprise, as an ad campaign for Holiday Inn once put it.

The final U.S. market-share standings for 2025 will have UMG towering over the Big 3, a position the knight’s company has held without challenge for as long as our declining brains can remember. Uni finished with a commanding 38.6% slice of the overall market-share pie in 2024. This year it’s 38.8. Needless to say, it’s another joyous Chanukah in Santa Monica.

Likewise for House Lipman’s Republic, which will repeat at #1 in current share with 16.6, compared to last year’s 16.7, even as Janick’s Interscope Capitol once again runs away from the competition in overall with 15.7—up nearly a percentage point over 2024’s 14.8, behind Kendrick Lamar (whose GNX via pgLang is #5 on the year), Billie Eilish (whose 2024 Darkroom release HIT ME HARD AND SOFT is #11) and Lady Gaga (whose MAYHEM is #16). Songs from these three generational talents and breakthrough artist Gracie Abrams comprise the ’Scope’s five entries in Spotify’s year-end global Top 10.

Republic has specialized in chart domination throughout the 2020s, thanks in large measure to astute dealmaking, including the pact with Big Loud’s Seth England that brought in Morgan Wallen and the more recent arrangement with Visva’s Savan Kotecha that landed the massive KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack. The company once again scores the year’s #1 and 2 albums, with Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl, which just surpassed 5m, and I’m the Problem from Wallen, whose two prior LPs remain entrenched in the Top 15, while Demon Hunters sits at #6, one spot above Short n’ Sweet from Island’s Sabrina Carpenter. Throw in 19 of the year’s top 50 titles (two more than 2024), plus Olivia Dean, the latest U.S. breakout act for Island’s Justin Eshak and Imran Majid—originally inked to Capitol U.K. by Jo Charrington—and you’ve got yet another jaw-dropping example of business as usual for Monte, Avery and their heavy-hitting crew.

Mike Harris’ MCA, Jesús López’s UMLE and Nat Pastor and JT Myers’ #2 distribbery, Virgin Music Group, make up the rest of Grainge’s empire.

At Rob Stringer’s Sony Music (27.5 overall, 26 current), Tyler, the Creator’s distinguished career is in overdrive on Ron Perry’s Columbia, cementing his status as Big Red’s latest critically acclaimed superstar, with Spanish shapeshifter ROSALÍA on deck. Peter Edge’s RCA has 2025’s #3 and 11 albums in SOS from TDE’s SZA and So Close to What from the torrid Tate McRae. Epic is retooling under Rick Sackheim and Zeke Lewis, Taylor Lindsey is completing her first year as the head of Sony Nashville, Todd Moscowitz’s Alamo continues to punch above its weight and Afo Verde’s Sony Latin is the genre’s top label in overall and current.

Stringer continues to reap the benefits of his company’s acquisition of indie-distro hub The Orchard, which has racked up 8+ shares in both current and overall under CEO Brad Navin and President/COO Colleen Theis. Rimas’ Bad Bunny, who ignited The Orchard’s explosion, has the year’s #4 album, DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, as he preps for his groundbreaking Super Bowl LX halftime performance. The Orchard is also the distribution partner for K-pop supergroup BLACKPINK as well as U.K. acts RAYE, Gorillaz and Oasis.

AMG savior Elliot Grainge

If you’re looking for surprises amid the status quo, look no further than Atlantic Music Group, which has quickly been revitalized under the forward-facing leadership of 32-year-old whiz kid Elliot Grainge. Since this chip off the old block started calling the plays in August of 2024, AMG has steadily risen in the standings, taking the #3 spot in current share with 7.8—an astonishing jump from last year’s 5.7—and tightening its grip on #3 in overall with 8.5 after finishing 2024 at 7.6. Atlantic’s 2025 breakthroughs start, fittingly, with new blood: Alex Warren, who came out of nowhere to land the year’s #2 streaming track in “Ordinary” (You’ll Be Alright, Kid is the #14 album), fellow Best New Artist Grammy nominees The Marías, whose “No One Noticed” is #10, and BLACKPINK’s ROSÉ, who teamed with consummate hitmaker Bruno Mars on “APT.,” the #22 single. Bruno doubled down on “Die With a Smile,” his smash duet with Gaga, which has amassed north of a billion streams ATD and stands at #3. Grainge also fast-tracked Charli xcx, shepherded Cardi B’s return and helped keep Ed Sheeran relevant.

Through it all, you get the distinct sense that Grainge the Younger is just getting started, which bodes well for Robert Kyncl’s WMG (18.9 overall, 16.5 current). The CEO now has a twin-engined machine as Warner Records continues its hot streak under Aaron Bay-Schuck and Tom Corson thanks to hits from Teddy Swims, Benson Boone and BNA-nominated newcomer sombr. The Bunny will kick off 2026 with the first album from superstar Zach Bryan since he signed his mega-bucks new deal. Cris Lacy’s rebranded Warner Records Nashville is part of Bay-Schuck and Corson’s expanding operation. Warner Music Latina and ADA, both headed by Alejandro Duque, complete the WMG ecosystem.

While we fully expect the perennial winners to keep stringing together chunk plays in 2026, we can’t wait to find out which upstarts and outliers will vault into contention next year.
