Petty bails on Randy

REFUGEES: Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers are the latest major act to defect from AEG Live to play the Hollywood Bowl, causing some to quip that Randy Phillips might as well be part of Live Nation’s artist relations department, so effective has he been in sending AEG artists their way. Live Nation hopes its bitter rival doesn’t fire Phillips, who has been a godsend to them in recent months. AEG’s real business is filling arenas, at which the company is much more effective than it has been at promoting concerts during the Phillips regime, losing millions along the way. (3/25a)
