Now 37 Is #1, But Bieber and Mumford & Sons Leads Post-Show Surge
God bless the Grammys.

Thanks to a stellar line-up, and the viral effects of social media, this year’s awards ceremony had its highest rating in a decade, spurring sales accordingly.

And while Capitol/EMI earned its third chart-topper of the new year with the latest edition of Now 37, which debuts at #1 with 152k, the rest of the Top 10 is dominated by artists who benefited from their Grammy night exposure.

Island/IDJ teenpop phenom Justin Bieber didn’t win any hardware, but the combination of an awards show performance and the opening of his 3D biopic, Never Say Never, helps send My World 2.0 soaring (#16-2, up a whopping 148%), second highest increase of the week next to his Acoustic album (#46-11, +236%).

Glassnote’s Mumford & Sons also walked away empty-handed, but their game-changing Grammy set, alone and then with Bob Dylan, boosted sales of Sigh No More 125%, with 50k, sending the album soaring, #13-3. And that’s just the beginning.

A pair of hip-pop divas, YM/Cash Money/Universal Motown’s Nicki Minaj (#4) and LaFace/ILG’s P!nk (#9-5, +74%) round out the Top 5.

Shady/Aftermath/Interscope’s Eminem (#12-5, 72%), New Elektra/s Bruno Mars (#7, 30%), Def Jam/IDJ’s Rihanna (#8, +25%), Broken Bow’s Jason Aldean (#9, +31%) and Jive/JLG’s 2011 Grammy Nominees (#17-10, +77%) complete the Top 10.

Stoney Creek/Broken Bow country group Thompson Square, the Nashville-based husband-and-wife duo of Keifer and Shawna Thompson, is the week’s highest debut, landing at #15. along with Jason Aldean, that gives RED distribution two hit country acts in the Top 15.

Other big chart movers this week include big Grammy winners, Capitol Nashville’s Lady Antebellum (#22-16, +66%), Interscope’s Black Eyed Peas The E.N.D. (#40-21, +65%) and Beginning (#18-14, +61%), Capitol/EMI’s Katy Perry (#12, +59%), Curb’s Tim McGraw (#47-29, +59%), and Columbia’s Train (#48-32, +55%).

Hitting stores yesterday was Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never companion piece, featuring remixes and one new Diane Warren song, along with Saddle Creek’s Bright Eyes.
