WHAT IT IS: Indie-electro band Cannons quickly became favorites among KCRW DJs. Since forming the L.A. trio in 2013, Michelle Joy, Ryan Clapham and Paul Davis have generated millions of streams independently and landed syncs on Netflix’s Lucifer and Never Have I Ever, the latter leading to their deal with Columbia. A hodgepodge of organic and electronic sounds with ’80s synth pop and a uniquely nostalgic feel, their dreamy single “Fire for You”—which reached #1 on Alt radio and #8 on the Shazam Global chart—has primed Cannons to be alt’s next big thing.
