Tiana Major9 (Motown/Capitol)
10/22/19

WHAT IT IS: Although Tiana Major9 fell in love with R&B and hip-hop first, her fascination with their origins quickly turned from curiosity to a genuine obsession with jazz. “Jazz is free and uncompromising,” she says, using two words that also aptly describe the East London-born artist and her music. Growing up in a Jamaican household, Tiana found herself surrounded by many different styles of music— everything from reggae to garage. The church became a catalyst for her love of performing, and private lessons helped hone her talent. Her self-penned lyrics and alternative sound eventually earned her early support from BBC Radio 1Xtra and a spot on their “Hot for 2019” list. “Collide”—her collaboration with EARTHGANG—is a heartfelt duet that was produced by Benny Cassette (Kanye West, John Legend) for the soundtrack to the fall 2019 film Queen & Slim. In less than a week, the track amassed more than 700k global streams.
