Sony Music is at CES touting the development of new opportunities in gaming and virtual production. Columbia’s Iniko is ready to play.
Three applications are on view at the Sony booth. The confab opens today (1/9) and runs through Friday at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The exhibit will showcase how Sony's virtual production capabilities and Unreal Editor for Epic Games’ Fortnite were used to create the music video for "Jericho" by Columbia Records artist Iniko, as well as Journey Through Jericho, a companion Fortnite island based on the video.
“I really wanted to expand more into the realm of gaming,” Iniko said. “I think it’s a great way to expand the art that is my song ‘Jericho’ and a great way to get people to be a part of the ‘Jericho’ world.” Visitors will also be able to experience Nitewave, a new music-focused island for Fortnite built with UEFN, and play AVNU: Where Music Meets, a music destination for Roblox centered on music-related gameplay, challenges and virtual goods collecting. It features music from Sony Music talent including Arista Records artist Paul Russell.
Journey Through Jericho and Nitewave are among the early examples of a music company launching custom-built islands on Fortnite using Unreal Editor for Fortnite tools.
