Songwriters extraordinaire Desmond Child and Stephen Schwartz led a rollicking piano singalong at a fundraiser for The ASCAP Foundation, which supports music-education programs for kids and nascent creators. Soaking up the seasonal cheer were (l-r) ASCAP Foundation Executive Director Nicole George-Middleton, Child, philanthropist Adrienne Arsht and Schwartz.
Dubbed "An Intimate Evening of Music and Merriment," the event was hosted by Child at his New York home and also featured performances by Maria Bilbao (Sweeney Todd), Ruben Flores (In the Heights, Blacklist) and jazz pianist Peter Cincotti.
Child naturally couldn't resist busting out Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer," while Schwartz (who inked a splashy global pub deal with UMPG in September) sang "Corner of the Sky" and "For Good," from Pippin and Wicked, respectively. Cincotti played "Because It's Christmas" and "Killer on the Keys." Bilbao unveiled "Where Do I Go From You," from Child's upcoming musical, Cuba Libre.
Thankfully, no one let HITS near the Steinway because we would have cleared the room with our rendition of "Feliz Navidad."
