GOLDEN GLOBES DOLL UP THE SONG NOMS

The three pop songs from Barbie have secured Golden Globe nominations today (12/11) alongside works by Bruce Springsteen, Lenny Kravitz and Jack Black.

Barbie (Warner Bros.) is represented by Billie Eilish and FINNEAS’ “What Was I Made For?,” Dua Lipa's “Dance the Night,” by Lipa, Caroline Ailin, Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, and Ryan Gosling’s "I’m Just Ken,” by Ronson and Wyatt. The only other instance in which a film has earned three song nominations was in 1992 with Aladdin. “A Whole New World” triumphed at the Globes and went on to win two Grammys.

Springsteen and Patti Scialfa are nominated for “She Came to Me,” from Addicted to Romance, and Kravitz got the nod for “Rustin,” from Road to Freedom. Black is part of the team—Aaron Horvath, Michael Jelenic, Eric Osmond and John Spiker—behind “Peaches,” from The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The dearly departed Robbie Robertson received a score nomination for his music for Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour received a nom in a new category, Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, which recognizes films that grossed at least $100m in the U.S. and $150m worldwide.

Barbie leads the film nominees; HBO’s Succession was tops in TV. Both had nine nods apiece. Universal’s Oppenheimer had eight; Apple Original FilmsKillers of the Flower Moon and Searchlight’s Poor Things tied with seven.

Barbie is up for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, against Air, American Fiction, The Holdovers, May December and Poor Things.

Barbie’s box-office-busting summer partner, Oppenheimer, is contending for Best Motion Picture, Drama, against Anatomy of a Fall, Killers of the Flower Moon, the Leonard Bernstein biopic Maestro, Past Lives and The Zone of Interest.

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards will take place 1/7 at the Beverly Hilton and air live on CBS and Paramount+.
