SOUND GETS LOUDER

Sound raised $20m in a Series A round led by a16z crypto, with participation from Snoop Dogg, Ryan Tedder, Paul Rosenberg, Crush Ventures and others.

Also participating in the round of funding were Palm Tree Crew, Scalar Capital, A Capital, Collab + Currency, Sound Ventures and Coop Records.

Sound, with co-founder David Greenstein running things as CEO, was founded on the hypothesis that the true value of music of could be found by enhancing the connection between artists and fans. Their pitch: “Our mission is to create a world where artists can make a living off their music alone.”

By making music collectible, Sound artists have earned revenue equivalent to 1.6b streams. Artists can make a living from 1,000 true fans without chasing viral hits and millions of streams; the company has generated $5.5m in revenue for creators using the system.

Sound allows artists to release music at a price they determine and receive instant payments. Via the site’s artist profile, acts can identify their biggest collectors and earliest fans. Artists retain 100% of master and publishing rights.
