WHY WAS THIS WEEKEND DIFFERENT FROM ALL OTHER WEEKENDS?

Fresh from having commemorated an ancestral flight across the desert, UMG boss Sir Lucian Grainge joined Motown ruler Ethiopia Habtemariam for a more literal sort of parched pilgrimage, namely to weekend two of Coachella. The first order of business: this festive photo op with Quality Control toppers Coach K and P and QC/Motown artists City Girls, who rocked the Sahara Stage on the preceding Friday (and brought out guest Moneybagg Yo) and somehow summoned the energy to host a star-studded Saturday party. Ah, youth.

Motown’s desert delights have also included QC superstar Lil Baby, of course, whose main-stage set featured an appearance by Gunna, a buzzy Vince Staples perf and more. Sadly, most of the chocolate-covered matzo had melted.
