BOWIE CATALOG
FOR SALE?

The estate of David Bowie is reportedly in “advanced talks” to sell his songwriting catalog for around $200m, according to a story in the Financial Times.

No potential buyers have been named but a deal could be announced within weeks, sources say. Bowie’s estate, which was left to his second wife, Iman, and two children, declined to comment.

If the FT account is accurate, Bowie’s songwriting catalog would join those by the likes of Bob Dylan, Stevie Nicks, Neil Young and Paul Simon, which have all sold for nine-figure sums over the last year.

In September, Warner Music Group announced a deal for Bowie’s 21st century works, giving it control over all five decades of his recordings. The agreement will take effect in 2023.

The Bowie estate is currently managing a yearlong celebration of the 75th anniversary of the star’s birth, which kicked off this month with pop-up shops in London and New York.
