THE RUMOURS ARE TRUE: FLEETWOOD MAC'S CRAN-TASTIC VIRAL BOOM

Grab your Ocean Spray, your dancing sneakers and your phone, kids, because it’s time to rock out to some Fleetwood Mac.

We told you a while ago that the WMG classic-rock faves and their mondo-gigantico album Rumours have sashayed back into the mainstream thanks to the viral explosion of “Dreams,” one of several colossal smashes from L.A. troupe’s signature set. That song, of course, took off thanks to a video of a dude from Idaho named Nathan Apodaca lip-synching the song while swigging a magnum of cran-raspberry juice cocktail.

As a result, “Dreams” has earned some 230m listens on various platforms in the last two weeks, according to Bunny bean counters, including 36m streams—and Rumours is a strong contender for the Top 10 on the next HITS Top 50 chart. What's more, other cuts from the beloved set are also bubbling up.

Of course, once the “Dreams Challenge” ignited on TikTok, Instagram, Reels and elsewhere, the thing was outta here, zeitgeist-wise. Band members Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks even made their own tongue-in-cheek videos.

What the corporate Svengalis at WMG’s Global Catalog Division and your average Ocean Spray-slurping slob can agree upon, in any case, is that this phenomenon was assisted by TikTok and other viral platforms but wasn’t created by them. When great catalog songs get exposed to new audiences, the sky’s the limit—we saw it with Journey and Queen, to cite just two prominent examples, and now we’re seeing it with Fleetwood Mac.

And now little kiddies are finding these strange vinyl platters in grandpa’s mancave that have the dancing cranberry man song on them. Can 2020 get any weirder?
