CAROUSEL OF HOPE RAISES $1M

More than $1m was raised for clinical care and diabetes research for the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes at the 2020 Carousel of Hope Ball presented virally. Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, Sam Smith and Rod Stewart were among the performers.

The program ended with a group performance of Davis’s favorite song, “That’s What Friends Are For,” led by Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight, Cynthia Erivo, Smith, and Kenny G. Bocelli and Pia Toscano, accompanied by David Foster, performed a duet of “The Prayer”; Tony Bennett dedicated “The Way You Look Tonight” to Davis; and Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton sang their hit “Happy Anywhere.”

Other performers included Deborah Cox, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Adam Lambert and Barry Manilow. Among those who spoke were Burt Bacharach, Clive Davis, David Geffen, Quincy Jones, Nigel Lythgoe, Lionel Richie, Usher and Diane Warren.

Streamed on PEOPLE.com/Carousel, it was the first time Carousel of Hope Ball was available for public viewing. The event celebrated Davis’ 90th birthday, and the 40th Anniversary of the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes.
