GRAMMY PREVIEW: SCARYPOOLPARTY

Diving In With Scarypoolparty

Scarypoolparty is Alejandro Aranda, who made a huge impression out of the gate with a splashy American Idol appearance that drew breathless praise from the likes of Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. Blending alternative-rock energy and classical influences, he’s crafted a distinctive musical foundation for his powerful voice—and he became an effective live act before the lockdown. He’s since announced a drive-in show in Anaheim. It’s safe to say he hasn’t yet encountered anything as scary as us.

What would a Grammy nomination mean to you?
It would mean the world to be nominated. Just the thought that someone takes notice of the music means the absolute world to me, and to be on the list with so many other amazing artists would be a dream come true.

You blend many genres and styles. How would you describe your sound?
I don’t really know how to describe my sound, but I would say that I appreciate so many different styles of music, and I try to blend in as much as I can with each track I make.

What artists currently making music inspire you?
I’m super-inspired by Deftones, black midi, IDLES and Radiohead. They make amazing music. I hope to make records like those artists one day.

You’ve accomplished so much within the last year. What’s next for Scarypoolparty?
Honestly, just trying to make as much music as possible. I’m excited to get back in the studio and just write music. I’m also super-excited to play some shows with my band and collaborate more.
