NO DIXIE. JUST THE CHICKS.

In these days of reckoning over all things related to the Confederacy, the Dixie Chicks have shortened their name to The Chicks ahead of the 7/17 release of their next Columbia album, Gaslighter.

While Natalie Maines, Martie Erwin Maguire and Emily Strayer made a statement after redirecting visitors to dixiechicks.com to http://thechicks.com. The New York Times noticed the switch earlier today.

"We want to meet the moment,” the trio said in a statement.

They avoided the issue Lady Antebellum faced after shortening their name to Lady A, already long in use by a Seattle singer. The Chicks duo of New Zealand have allowed Emily, Natalie and Martie to use the name.
