MASON'S MESSAGE:
"USE OUR VOICES FOR GOOD"

Recording Academy interim chief Harvey Mason Jr. sent out a message to members on 5/29 addressing both the pandemic and the police brutality and eruptions of unrest that have roiled the country. His entire missive appears below.

Dear Friends,

Our communities have been hit hard with the pandemic and the most recent, painful displays of racial injustice. The reality is that while this is an issue that has a profound and direct impact to the Black community, it is also a human issue and we all play a role. In moments like this, it is important that we continue to all come together - the Recording Academy, our affiliates and the music industry - to drive real and meaningful change.

Now more than ever, we have a responsibility to take the necessary steps to ensure that every employee and member of the Recording Academy feels supported during this difficult time. It’s about treating our friends, neighbors, and community members with respect and leaning on the power of music to heal.

As we navigate these uncertain times, let’s continue to stay informed, use our voices for good and remember to not neglect self-care. It is natural to feel anger or frustration at the current state of the world, however, we can use this as a catalyst to inspire change.

Thank you,
Harvey Mason jr.
