NEWSOM PUSHES FOR
BAN ON GATHERINGS

If Gov. Gavin Newsom’s latest proposal is enacted, there won’t be a concert held or a ball game played in California this month.

Newsom recommended the cancellation or postponement of gatherings of 250 or more people, saying in a statement “Not holding that concert or community event can have cascading effects—saving dozens of lives and preserving critical healthcare resources that your family may need a month from now. The people in our lives who are most at risk—seniors and those with underlying health conditions—are depending on all of us to make the right choice.”

Newsom was following up on the California Department of Public Health’s recommended policies to stop the spread of COVID-19. The only caveat to limiting non-essential gatherings is only if audience members are able to have a “social distancing” of six feet.

If the limits become policy, among the gatherings affected would be Major League Baseball's opening week and countless concerts.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown announced Wednesday night a statewide ban on all public gatherings of more than 250 people for four weeks, beginning today (3/12).
