GOULD, ROBERTS HEADING DOWNTOWN

Downtown Music Publishing has tapped Andrew Gould as SVP and Head of A&R, and Corey Roberts as VP of A&R Research; both will be based in the firm’s L.A. digs. Gould, most recently Co-Head of A&R at BMG, will report to CEO Justin Kalifowitz, who announced both appointments. Roberts will report to Gould.

Gould’s team will include VP International A&R Taeko Saito, Senior Manager of A&R Dylan Silbermann and A&R Coordinator Jacqueline Burnham.

In his prior gig, Gould worked closely with, among many others, Jon Bellion, Bebe Rexha and Grammy nominee Andra Day. He also placed The Monsters & Strangerz’ smash co-write “The Middle” with Zedd, Grey and Maren Morris and inked global phenom Calum Scott. He began his career at Epic before transitioning to EMI Music Publishing, holds an MBA from The Wharton School and sits on the Grammy Board’s L.A. chapter, co-chairing the Advocacy Committee. He has already identified three typos in this story.

Roberts led A&R research at SONGS Music Publishing, where his work helped lay the groundwork for an array of forward-looking signings and where he also answered fan mail addressed to Ron Perry’s dog. He previously worked his analytical magic at UMPG, Epic and Motown.

“In Andrew,” Kalifowitz proclaimed, “we have found a stong advocate for the global songwriting community. One who recognizes that song copyrights are not units of currency, but rather the building blocks of popular culture. And we are going to make some fat blocks of popular culture.”

“I am thrilled to step into this role at this exciting time in music, and work alongside Corey and the talented A&R team in LA.,” Gould declared. “I just wish our office could be farther away from those idiots at HITS.”
