Ahead of Elton John’s three-year, grand finale tour, two tributes to John and his lyricist partner Bernie Taupin are enjoying a pleasant ride on iTunes. TV helped get the albums into the Top 10—and could continue to bolster sales.
Revamp, Island’s pop collection featuring Coldplay, Mumford & Sons, Alessia Cara and others interpreting songs such as “Tiny Dancer,” “We All Fall in Love Sometimes” and “Someone Saved My Life Tonight,” is #3 at iTunes this morning. UMG Nashville’s Restoration, with Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton, Maren Morris and others taking on “Rocket Man,” “My Father’s Gun” and “Roy Rogers,” is #5.
Part of the sales rise owes to heavy promotional activity from John as well as a CBS Sunday Morning piece on Taupin. The John-Taupin celebration continues Tuesday when CBS airs Elton John: I’m Still Standing—A Grammy Salute, which features live performances from the artists on the albums, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran and Lady Gaga among them.
