CROWE GETS BEHIND A BYRD'S DOCUMENTARY

David Crosby gets between director A.J. Eaton and Cameron Crowe as they debate the merits of "Deja Vu" and "Dark Star."

BMG is financing a Cameron Crowe-produced documentary on David Crosby in partnership with Crowe’s Vinyl Films. It is the first Crosby-authorized doc on his life.

A.J. Eaton will make his feature doc directing debut, and has been following Crosby for the past few years, attempting to escape a contact high. Other producers on the film are Michele Farinola for PCH Films and Greg Mariotti for Vinyl Films. Justus Haerder and Kathy Rivkin-Daum are exec-producing for BMG.

"It’s just such a compelling story,” Crowe said. “David Crosby has been near the forefront of music and social change for the last four decades. Now 76, he’s forging a new path by seeking out younger musicians and trying to make a mark in a world now so different from the generation he came to define in the ‘60s.”

BMG will be selling the film as well.

BMG has recently entered the film business and its first feature-length documentary, Bad Reputation, a film on Joan Jett, made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January and was acquired by Magnolia Pictures. BMG’s slate includes The Show’s The Thing about music agents, the T-Rex film, The Children of The Revolution and Rudeboy: The Story of Trojan Records.
