The Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films in America Over the Weekend

After five weeks on top, a film finally managed to dethrone Disney/Marvel blockbuster Black Panther. Universal’s Pacific Rim Uprising, which earned a B at CinemaScore and pretty lukewarm reviews, debuted at #1 with $28m. The film did, however, bring in a solid $122.5m internationally, with $65m of that coming from its Chinese bow. Meanwhile, Black Panther officially became the biggest superhero movie of all time, surpassing 2012’s The Avengers with an approximate domestic total of $631m. Genre aside, it’s also become one of the Top 5 domestic releases ever.

1. Pacific Rim Uprising (Universal) $28.0m 3,708/$7,552 avg. (debut)
2. Black Panther (Buena Vista) $16.7m 3,370/$4,943 avg. (week 6)
3. I Can Only Imagine (Roadside) $13.8m 2,253/$6,142 avg. (week 2)
4. Sherlock Gnomes (Paramount) $10.6m 3,662/$2,895 avg. (debut)
5. Tomb Raider (Warner Bros.) $10.4m 3,854/$2,706 avg. (week 2)
