WOMEN OF HOLLYWOOD TAKE ACTION

300 esteemed actresses and female agents, writers, directors, producers and entertainment executives have come together to create Time’s Up—an initiative that “addresses the systemic inequality and injustice in the workplace that have kept underrepresented groups from reaching their full potential,” according to the group’s official website. “We partner with leading advocates for equality and safety to improve laws, employment agreements, and corporate policies; help change the face of corporate boardrooms and the C-suite; and enable more women and men to access our legal system to hold wrongdoers accountable.”

In support of the movement that is calling for legislation to penalize companies tolerating persistent harassment, as well as discouraging the use of NDAs to silence victims, women walking the Golden Globes red carpet have been asked to wear black.

It's also worth noting that a legal defense fund, which will be housed at and administrated by the National Women’s Law Center, is being set up to "provide subsidized legal support to women and men who have experienced sexual harassment, assault, or abuse in the workplace and while in pursuit of their careers." Click here to donate via the GoFundMe fundraiser; at press time, more than $14m of the $15m goal had been generated over the span of 13 days.

Despite having no central leaders, involved members of the music community reportedly include Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake. We're told Sir Lucian Grainge and Neil Portnow were among those in attendance at the meeting to form the Commission on Sexual Harassment and Advancing Equality in the Workplace, which is chaired by Anita Hill and encompassed by Time's Up.

“The Commission will not seek just one solution, but a comprehensive strategy to address the complex and inter-related causes of the problems of parity and power,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, who originally proposed an industry commission back in October. “The fact that so many industry leaders—across film, television, music, digital, unions, agencies, ATA, AMPAS, television academy and guilds—came together, in one room, to explore solutions speaks to a new era.”
