U.K. SIGNINGS: BALL & BOE TOGETHER AGAIN AT DECCA

Freshly inked artist deals in London include Decca re-signing multi-platinum duo Ball & Boe, Syco adding award-winning songwriter Ina Wroldsen to its artist roster and Ministry of Sound signing London duo THRDL!FE.

After scoring the Christmas #1 albums spot and ending 2016 as one of Blighty’s biggest sellers with joint album Together—which has now sold more than 600k in the U.K.—Michael Ball and Alfie Boe (pictured) have signed a new deal with UMG U.K. label Decca. The duo will be releasing follow-up, Together Again, later this year. The new deal, announced by Decca President Rebecca Allen, is three part. Michael Ball and Alfie Boe have scored solo deals respectively, as well as re-signing as a duo.

At Sony U.K., Syco MD Tyler Brown has secured his first major artist signing since taking over from Sonny Takhar. Wroldsen, who will record her debut album this summer, has co-written for One Direction, James Arthur, Clean Bandit, Britney Spears and Jess Glynne. She has record sales of more than 25m, and has received four BMI awards and five BRIT nominations.

"Ina is undoubtedly a world class songwriter who is just getting better and better,” Brown said. “Her incredible success over the last nine months is testament to that. I've always felt she was an artist as well as a writer and the songs she has written for herself this year are exceptional. I can't wait for the world to hear them."

In other U.K. signing news, London duo THRDL!FE have signed to Sony’s Ministry of Sound. Their debut single, “Can’t Buy Love,” came out Friday.

Songwriter Ina Wroldsen asks herself, “now, what rhymes with Brexit?”
