REID’S OUSTER FOLLOWED ALLEGATIONS OF SEXUAL MISCONDUCT (UPDATE)

UPDATE: The New York Post’s Claire Atkinson, who has been reporting regularly on the Reid firing, wrote today (5/17) that other charges against him may have been settled over a five-year period during his previous job, citing an industry source.

The New York Post reported Sunday evening that L.A. Reid was removed as the head of Epic Records after a staffer told Sony Music about several instances of alleged sexual harassment.

An incident that took place during the label’s holiday party was one of several instances, according to a 3/22 letter sent by the woman’s attorney to Sony Music General Counsel Julie Swidler, a source who provided details from the letter told the Post’s Claire Atkinson.

Sony Music issued a surprisingly terse one-sentence statement on Saturday: “L.A. Reid will be leaving the company.”

Shortly after the Post report went up, Variety posted a story confirming the existence of the letter, adding that it "has further learned that there have been ‘multiple’ claims made against Reid."

Variety’s Shirley Halperin, who filed the Sunday night piece, originally broke the story that Reid was leaving on Thursday.

Rob Stringer, who took over as Sony Music CEO in April, is receiving praise in numerous press reports for his leadership and decisive action.
