THIS CHART STORY
BELONGS TO EVERYBODY

Def Jam's Logic has emerged as the clear winner in this week's Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart race, taking the #1 prize with a total north of 251k for third album Everybody. The rapper made a strong D2C showing, thanks to his rabid fanbase.

For much of the week, it was a real squeaker of a race, and Mercury Nashville’s Chris Stapleton battled admirably through the final inning. The bearded troubadour’s From a Room: Volume 1 wrapped things up at #2 with a strong 222k. (On the Album Sales Chart, Stapleton did in fact receive #1 honors. His set moved approximately 206k units, while Logic’s moved 199k.)

It’s also worth noting that his breakout set Traveller—originally out in 2015—leaped #33-22, up 67% with upwards of 23k, in tandem with the release of the new album.

As for the other debuts, RussThere’s Really a Wolf (Columbia) bows at #7 with 49k, NOW’s Now 62 comes in at #9 with 36k and Diana Krall’s Turn Up the Quiet (Verve) appears at #14 with 30k.

Hollywood’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 2 sees a big jump this week as a result of the movie’s opening. The soundtrack bounds #9-4, up 134% with 87k. By the way, Awesome Mix: Vol. 1—originally out in 2014—re-enters the chart at #29 with just south of 18k.

And there’s another film-related re-entry worth mentioning. Republic’s Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack flies in at #21 with 24k, as the DVD hits stores. Strange choice for a Mother’s Day present, but we ain’t judging. Mommy…?

When it comes to SPS marketshare, UMG is #1 with 69% (…hehe, 69, hehe…) and WMG is #2 with 16%, while SME follows with 14% and the indies hold 1%.

Streeting this week are albums from Columbia’s Harry Styles (in case you hadn’t noticed) and Southern Ground/Atlantic’s Zac Brown Band.
