RECORD STORE DAY WINNERS: DISC DRIVE

Ownership ain't dead yet, pumpkin. The top-selling titles of this year's Record Store Day (4/22) at indie outlets, helpfully compiled by our data partners at BuzzAngle Music, show a robust day's trade in physical product. Indeed, the numbers eclipsed what many top titles at certain top retail chains will do in a week.

Album sales are up 6% year-over-year, with vinyl LPs jumping 14% (78% of albums purchased were vinyl). Single sales edged down 3%.

RSD is a huge force at physical retail, of course, as evidenced by vinyl album sales jumping 2,606% on 4/22 over the preceding Saturday.

Topping the album leaderboard is The Grateful Dead, whose latest live set is from their earliest incarnation. The Beatles are #1 on the singles chart with a "Strawberry Fields"/"Penny Lane" double A-side that crystallizes the gorgeous nostalgia of so many RSD releases. Legends like Prince, David Bowie, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Neil Young, Santana, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, The Zombies, Patti Smith, Harry Nilsson and The Notorious B.I.G. also scored bigtime on RSD.
