VINYL FETISHISTS UNITE: RSD TURNS 10

Vinyl-devouring hordes will be battling for limited editions of records by Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Prince, Spoon and countless indie acts as the 10th anniversary of Record Store Day is celebrated 4/22. Let the needle drop.

UMe/Anthem/ole will release a limited edition, 12-inch single of Rush’s “Cygnus X-1 – Book I: The Voyage” b/w “Cygnus X-1 – Book II: Hemispheres.”

Among other items inspiring us to clear some room on the credit card are: Dave Alvin & Phil Alvin’s Hard Travelin’ EP; Blitzen Trapper studio recordings, reissue of The Count Five’s classic debut, a Steve Earle and the Dukes live set, Thelonious Monk’s work for a film; live Iggy Pop; Sia’s Spotify Sessions; U-Roy’s Dread in Babylon; the Roky Erickson tribute album Where the Pyramid Meets the Eye; The soundtrack to the Edie Sedgwick film Ciao! To celebrate its 10th year and Record Store Day's first official release, Like A Drunk In A Midnight Choir—Record Store Day Celebrates The Music of Leonard Cohen, a panel discussion will be held at the Grammy Museum in L.A. on 3/29. Amoeba Music co-founder Marc Weinstein, Rand Foster, owner of Fingerprints Music in Long Beach, Resonance Records GM Zev Feldman and Luna’s Dean Wareham are among the participants.

This year, the Record Store Day organizers are encouraging everyone to get out to the stores on Saturday rather than peruse eBay on Sunday. Notice the type on the Brandy Clark LP, for example.

Labels continue to trickle in with news of their releases. Well keep updating over the next month.
