MOREHOUSE SINGS PLATT'S PRAISES

Warner/Chappell chief Jon Platt will receive the Candle Award in Music, Business and Entertainment from Atlanta’s Morehouse College this weekend. The Saturday event is part of the historically black college’s 150th anniversary celebration, with proceeds going to the Morehouse College Scholarship Fund. The celebrated publishing exec, currently celebrating Grammy wins for Beyoncé and other writers, will also join artist Usher and filmmaker Tyler Perry for a panel discussion.

Prior recipients of the Candle Award—presented to non-alumni in recognition of their “outstanding leadership and service”—include Ray Charles, Quincy Jones, Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson, Denzel Washington, Sidney Poitier, Oprah Winfrey, August Wilson and Louis Gossett, Jr. Famed Morehouse alumni, meanwhile, include Martin Luther King, Jr., Spike Lee, Samuel L. Jackson and Edwin Moses.

A note to company troops from WMG’s Steve Cooper hailed Platt’s latest laurel. It reads, in part:

There is no one more deserving of this award than Jon, who inspires his songwriters, his team, and his colleagues in the industry and beyond with his extraordinary wisdom, mentorship, creativity and passion. We’re so proud to have Jon in our WMG family, and thrilled to see him join such illustrious company with this outstanding honor.
