SIR LUCIAN HAILED FOR EMPOWERING FEMALE EXECS

UMG ruler Sir Lucian Grainge was awarded with Variety’s 2016 EmPOWerment Award on 10/14 for being a “champion of female leadership,” in recognition of his hiring, supporting and promoting female executives. The entertainment trade’s recent report hailed Grainge team members including UMG EVP Michele Anthony, UMPG topper Jody Gerson, Republic EVP/Head of Urban A&R Wendy Goldstein, Motown Prez/UMPG Head of Urban Music Ethiopia Habtemariam and Capitol Music Group COO Michelle Jubelirer.

“Since becoming chairman/CEO of Universal Music Group in 2011,” the publication observed earlier this week, “Lucian Grainge has overseen a noticeable shift in the demographics of the industry leader’s C-suites.”

Actress/director/producer Rosanna Arquette, pictured here with Grainge, presented him with the honor at the Power of Women luncheon (co-presented by Lifetime) at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons. Sir Lucian is the second executive to receive the award.

Also honored at the event were Laverne Cox, Miley Cyrus, Ava DuVernay, Scarlett Johansson and Helen Mirren.
