U.K. MIDWEEK CHARTS: A THREE-WAY FIGHT FOR #1

Passenger and Bruce Springsteen are neck-and-neck on the U.K. Official Albums Chart at midweek with Shawn Mendes sitting at #3. The top three titles are separated by fewer than 1,100 combined sales.

Black Crow’s Passenger has had three Top 20 albums, but if Young as the Morning, Old as the Sea holds on, it would be his first #1. EMI’s Mendes has also never had a chart-topper in the U.K.; Columbia’s Springsteen has had 10.

Marillion could have its highest charting album in 29 years as their Ear Music release F E A R sits at #4.

If the chart holds to form, the 6-10 entries would all be rookies. Australia’s Airbourne’s Breakin' Outta Hell (Spinefarm) is at #6; Reprise’s 10th anniversary edition of My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade/Living with Ghosts marches in at #7; and Joe Bonamassa’s Live at the Greek Theatre (Provogue) is parked at #8.

L.A. indie rockers Warpaint are looking to score their second Top 10 album as Heads Up (Rough Trade) sits at #9. Parlophone’s David Bowie box set Where Can I Be Now? (1974-1976) is at #10. Close by is Billy Bragg & Joe Henry's Shine a Light—Field Recordings from the Great American Railroad (Cooking Vinyl), currently #13.

On the midweek Official Singles Chart, “Say You Won’t Let Go” from SYCO’s James Arthur has moved up a slot from last week to #1. He previously hit #1 in 2012 with “Impossible” after winning X Factor.

The Weeknd f/Daft Punk’s “Starboy” (Republic/XO) has quickly floated to #3 making it the only newcomer in the Top 10.
