U.K. CHARTS: BASTILLE'S BIG WEEK

Bastille have scored their second #1 album in Blighty with Wild World notching up first-week combined sales of 36k, about 3x the amount of last week’s #1.

Wild World is released via Ted Cockle’s Virgin EMI and has enjoyed cross-platform support from radio and streaming. UMG U.K. marketing man Ian Carew and manager Red Light’s James Sandom deserve a pint; that 36k figure hasn't been achieved by many #1 albums in the U.K. this year.

New at #2 on today’s Official Albums Chart is Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' 16th studio album, Skeleton Tree (Kobalt). It’s the band’s fourth Top 10 and highest-charting release to date.

The Beatles' Live at the Hollywood Bowl (Apple Corps) has indeed become their 32nd U.K. Top 10 album at #3 and Meatloaf’s 13th studio album, Braver Than We Are (Caroline), which is still not on Spotify, is also new at #4. Last week’s #1, country duo Ward Thomas Cartwheels (Sony CMG), finishes this week at #5.

KT Tunstall's KIN, which also goes through Carew’s marketing team at Virgin EMI, is her fourth Top 10 LP at #7. Red Bull band Twin Atlantic earn their second Top 10 album in GLA at #9, and Teenage Fanclub score their best position in 19 years with the self-released Here at #10.

Over on the Official Singles Chart, Lady Gaga’s “Perfect Illusion” (Polydor) has ended the week at #12. The track now has radio support for its second week on sale; will it rise higher? The highest climber today is Sia f/Kendrick Lamar’s “The Greatest” (RCA), which jumps 44 places to #5. That’s surely down to airplay from Global’s Capital—it was added to the station's playlist a week ago. BBC Radio 1 have followed suit and the track is now sitting on its C List.

The remaining Top 5 remains unchanged as The Chainsmokers f/Halsey's “Closer” (RCA) enjoys its third week at #1 with 89k combined sales (31k downloads and 5.8m streams). “Let Me Love You” (Polydor) by DJ Snake and Justin Bieber finishes 30k sales behind at #2 and Major Lazer’s “Cold Water” (Because Music) holds at #3. Calum Scott’s “Dancing On My Own”(Virgin EMI) also stays put at #4. Further down, Ariana Grande celebrates her fourth Top 10 single with “Side To Side” featuring Nicki Minaj (Island), which leaps to #8 from #24.
