DEF JAM ACTION: JACKSON JOINS AS VP MARKETING

Quincy Jackson has been named Vice President Marketing for Def Jam Recordings. She reports to EVP Marketing Chris Atlas, who made the announcement.

In his statement, Atlas enthused that Jackson’s “extensive experience developing brands and executing marketing strategies within music and entertainment make her a great asset to our team.”

“I appreciate the confidence that Chris Atlas has in me,” said Ms. Jackson. “I’m excited to build, strengthen and implement innovative strategies for the talented artists and catalog that defines the legacy of Def Jam.”

Prior to her arrival at Def Jam, Jackson spent five years as principal of the Quincy Marketing Group, where she created and executed multimedia brand strategies and campaigns for clients including Beyoncé, Music World Music/MTV International, Estefan Enterprises, Guitar Hero and Monica. That job overlapped a stint during 2012-2013 when she served as marketing and affiliate relations contact at NBC Universal for a number of talk shows. She has spoken with Jerry Springer in normal conversational tones on numerous occasions.

Jackson comes full circle with her new gig; the Southern Connecticut State grad entered the biz in 1996 as business affairs assistant at the original Def Jam/RAL label, then distributed by Columbia. She subsequently rose through the ranks at Sony and was named VP in 2005, working with Beyoncé, John Legend, Destiny’s Child, various soundtrack projects and more. A year later, Jackson was upped to VP Product & Strategic Marketing at Columbia, where she remained until starting her own firm in 2011.
