CALLING ALL GLOBAL CITIZENS

Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Selena Gomez, Major Lazer and Metallica will headline the fifth annual Global Citizen Festival at the Great Lawn in Central Park in NYC on 9/24, it was announced today. Special guest performers include Usher, Chris Martin, Eddie Vedder, Ellie Goulding, Yandel and Yusuf/Cat Stevens.

Then there are the hosts: Chelsea Handler, Deborra-lee & Hugh Jackman, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra, Salma Hayek Pinault and Seth Meyers. Watch the trailer below.

The free-ticketed event urges people to come together to help highlight and potentially solve the world's biggest issues. Fans can choose from a range of actions that earn them points. Once enough points are earned, said fans can enter the draw for tickets. Every two weeks, a new campaign is launched with a different challenge for Global Citizens. The festival is currently pushing the Education Campaign.

As noted on the festival's official website, "Around the world, 61 million children of elementary school age are denied an education and almost 202 million adolescents are without access to a junior or high school. Nearly 75 million children have seen their education disrupted by conflict and natural disaster and 61 million of those are currently out of school. No child should be denied an education because of the circumstances they were born into."

FYI, a limited amount of VIP tickets will go up for sale via Ticketmaster on 7/28.

MSNBC & Comcast NBCUniversal will air a live simulcast of the full concert—produced by Grammy man Ken Ehrlich—on MSNBC and MSNBC.com. Gucci and CHIME FOR CHANGE have returned as presenting partners, and YouTube has returned as a worldwide digital streaming partner; a special livestream of the whole shebang will be made available to watch at www.youtube.com/GlobalCitizen.

iHeartMedia will serve as the official radio partner. The iHeartRadio Music Festival of course occurs the same weekend, and that will allow for "unique in-show collaborations and a special cross-over performance by Usher who will perform on both stages in one night," as was stated in a release. Looks like Bob Pittman's private jet has a big weekend ahead of it.
