The Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films in America Over the Weekend

Disney/Pixar blockbuster Finding Dory, held the #1 spot for a second weekend, earning the most at the box office with $73m. Three debuts still managed to make the Top 5, though; those were Fox's Independence Day: Resurgence, Sony's The Shallows and STX's Free State of Jones.

Finding Dory was only down a mere 46%, earning the largest second weekend for an animated flick or the eighth-largest second weekend in history.

2. Independence Day: Resurgence (Fox) $42m 4,068/$10,226 avg. (debut)
3. Central Intelligence (Warner Bros.) $18m 3,508/$5,237 avg. (week 2)
4. The Shallows (Sony) $17m 2,962/$5,638 avg. (debut)
5. Free State of Jones (STX) $8m 2,815/$2,761 avg. (debut)

Meanwhile, in limited release, A24's indie dark comedy, Swiss Army Man, which stars Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe, scored a whopping $114k from three theaters.
