CARRIE UNDERWOOD CUTS NEW NFL THEME

NBC is jettisoning its revamp of "I Hate Myself for Loving You" as its Sunday Night Football theme and replacing it with a reworked version of Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood’s 2014 hit "Somethin' Bad." It will premiere 9/11 on the Patriots-Cardinals broadcast.

Retitled "Oh, Sunday Night," Underwood will be singing about matchups and gridiron glory instead of the original’s subject matter—hookups, money under the mattress and getting rowdy in a bar in New Orleans. Maybe they'll just use the original when the Saints play.

Underwood toyed with the lyrics to “Somethin’ Bad,” written by Chris DeStefano, Brett James and Priscilla Renea, and presented a demo to NBC's Executive Producer of Sunday Night Football and Thursday Night Football, Fred Gaudelli, the AP reported. Underwood sings the current version of the theme.

The current song, a rewrite of Joan Jett's "I Hate Myself for Loving You," has been used for 10 years in versions by Pink and Faith Hill in addition to Underwood.
