KHALED GETS DRAKE "FOR FREE"

This morning, Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show premiered a new single from We the Best/Epic’s DJ Khaled featuring none other than Drake. The We the Best/Epic/YMCMB/Republic track, “For Free,” is an Apple Music exclusive and the first taste of Miami-based producer/artist Khaled’s forthcoming full-length set, Major Key, due in late July. It sounds like a freakin' monster to us. Zane agrees; as soon as the song was done spinning he started it up again. And then again, a few minutes later. And after another interview segment, again. And then again at the end of the show.

By Friday evening, the track was Top 5 at iTunes. The following morning it rose to #2, behind only Justin Timberlake's latest monster.

In case you're just joining us, Drake has been ruling the streaming platform by an obscene margin, and now he's about to grab even more listener share with this sleek Khaled track. By the by, "For Free" is the clean version of the song's refrain, "fuck me for free." Khaled noted at the end of the show that he and Drake were "goin' over video treatments."

Khaled also revealed, "Jay Z is my manager," not just Jay's company, Roc Nation. Jay is among the other guests on the forthcoming full-length, joining Future on "I Got the Keys," a track Khaled likens to "Jigga '96." Also Lil Wayne, Big Sean and Rick Ross, among others. On Zane's show, the DJ/producer confirmed Kanye West would also appear on a track, and teased a feature from Bryson Tiller.

The affable Khaled co-stars in a new Apple Music TV spot with Naomi Campbell and will headline Hot 97's Summer Jam on Sunday (6/5).

Khaled’s 2015 release, I Changed a Lot, featured Jay, Wayne, Future, Chris Brown, John Legend, Big Sean and Rick Ross, among other stars. Drake guested on 2013's Suffering From Success. A hugely influential figure on Snapchat, he’s also been hosting his own Beats 1 show, We the Best Radio, since February. He offered shout-outs to Jimmy Iovine, Larry Jackson and team Apple, and recalled starting out from "the mud" at radio, stealing records from the PDs.

Speaking of radio, the track hit iHeartRadio as Zane's show wrapped.
