ROBBIE WILLIAMS SIGNS WITH ILEY'S SONY U.K.

U.K. superstar Robbie Williams used Twitter Sunday to break the news that he's working on a new album for Jason Iley’s Sony Music U.K. Williams, who gained fame with the hugely successful lad-pop group Take That, went on to a blockbuster solo career and became one of the top-selling acts of all time and the #1-selling U.K. solo artist.

Williams will release his 11th studio album later this year through Alison Donald and Mark Terry's Columbia imprint. The deal means Williams leaves behind David Joseph's Universal U.K.; a label that inherited his catalogue following the acquisition of EMI in 2012 and where he went through Darcus Beese's Island.

For his new music, Williams will reunite with longtime collaborator and esteemed writer Guy Chambers, who co-wrote some of Williams' most successful records to date, including the huge career-defining single "Angels." Chambers also worked more recently on Williams' last release, 2013's Swing Both Ways.

Discussing his latest signing, Jason Iley said: “We are delighted to be working with Robbie. This is a once in a lifetime signing with the biggest male solo artist of our generation. Robbie Williams is one of the most charismatic, unique and creative artists this country has ever produced and his incredible achievements continue to make him one of the most successful in the world today. When he met the team, there was an immediate connection and we are immensely proud to be releasing what is sure to be an album that defines an exciting new chapter for Robbie.”

Williams added: “The team at Sony are professional, incredibly hungry, and have a great energy. They're inspired, I'm inspired. I'm more ready than I ever have been and I'm totally convinced I'm in the right place. I look forward to working on this album, which is an album I'm immensely proud of, in this exciting new partnership with Sony Music."

During his career, Williams has racked up 17 BRIT Awards as both a solo act and member of Take That, making him the biggest BRIT Award winner in history. Williams has had 11 U.K. #1 albums, has sold a staggering 70 million albums globally and holds the world record for the most tickets sold in a single day—1.6 million.

Williams also racked up 17 BRIT Awards as both a solo act and member of Take That.

His prior releases (the most recent being 2013's Swings Both Ways) were on EMI, which was of course acquired by UMG.
