U.K. CHARTS: ISLAND RECORDS SECURES DUAL #1

While two of Prince’s hits collections have returned to the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart Top 40 following news of his death yesterday, PJ Harvey still steals the top spot with The Hope Six Demolition Project (Island). Darcus Beese’s UMG label also boasts the top singles spot with Drake’s “One Dance.”

Despite not being available to stream, Ultimate (Warner), which peaked at #6 in 2007, re-enters at #10 while The Very Best of Prince (Warner), which hit #2 in 2001, goes back in at #18. On the Official Singles Chart, “Purple Rain” is at #65, with “When Doves Cry” and “Kiss” appearing further down. The real impact of Prince’s death will likely be seen next week, as fans continue to pay tribute to the late superstar.

PJ Harvey
has secured her first U.K. #1 with ninth album The Hope Six... battling competition from Adele’s 25 (XL). Kudos goes to the PJ team at Island, helmed by marketing manager Holly Williams.

Aled Jones
One Voice (Classic FM) climbs one place to #3, and new at #4 is Santana’s self-released Santana IV. Justin Bieber closes the Top 5 with Purpose (Virgin EMI) lifting two places.

“One Dance” is Drake’s first chart-topper as a lead artist, scoring 115k combined sales to claim its second week at #1. The track was also the most streamed song of the week, notching up almost 7.08m plays.

At #2, Sia and Sean Paul’s “Cheap Thrills” (Monkey Puzzle/RCA) is a non-mover, while Mike Posner’s “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” (Island) finishes another week at #3 and Fifth Harmony f/Ty Dolla Si$n's “Work from Home” (SYCO) does the same at #4. Lastly, Tinie Tempah scores his 13th Top 5 with Zara Larsson collaboration “Girls Like” (Parlophone).
