ICYMI: PRICE IS RIGHT

Rootsy indie writer/artist Margo Price, who could fill a scrapbook with the raves she’s been accumulating on her stone-country debut LP Midwest Farmer’s Daughter (on Jack White’s Third Man), made the most of her 4/9 SNL appearance.

It took Price years of struggle and rejection to become an “overnight sensation,” and the hard road she’s traveled brought added defiance to her performance of “Hurtin’ (On the Bottle) “ and poignancy to her delivery of the ballad “Since You Put Me Down.”

“A lot of people like mainstream country because they’re not given another option of country music to like that’s modern,” she recently said in Rolling Stone. “Much of the record is me giving the finger to the music business. I’m curious how I’ll be accepted in those circles now.”
