APPLE'S MUSIC EVOLUTION

It's no secret that Apple Music is in the original content business. They've made that clear from Day One, and have repeatedly delivered on that promise to subscribers whether it was incredible new music from Drake & Future or an exclusive concert film from the worldwide juggernaut that was Taylor Swift's 1989 Tour.

Peering into Apple's crystal ball reveals a blueprint much wider than just streaming music specials. With Netflix sitting there virtually unchallenged with 74m subscribers worldwide (44m in the U.S. alone as of 1/2016) plus HBO GO and Amazon on their way up and the tech giant equipped with an instant platform built into its iOS—not to mention Apple TV— it is sort of obvious to assume they will wade into the deep-pocket waters of television production at some point.

According a report by the NY Post, that time is now. According to insiders, Apple is actively developing TV shows and even recently partnered with former NBC network boss Ben Silverman to helm a new series, based on the world of app developers.

Eddy Cue, Apple’s SVP of Internet Software and Services told The Post, “We’ve been focused on a lot of content around Apple Music, video is a big part of it and we’ll do more of those [shows]. This was another opportunity right up our alley with apps.”

Apple has previously announced a six-part music series in partnership with Vice Media called, “The Score,” and although a leak revealed its existence, there is also a six-episode TV show from Beats co-founder Dr. Dre on the way, called "Vital Signs."

Is this everything the company has in the pipeline, or is more coming? With 11 million subscribers now paying $10 a month for the service, that's a lot of cash available to invest back into original content development. So we're guessing that's a big Yes.
