SAFE AT HOME

We ran the photo at left a week ago as a tease for this morning’s announcement of a JV label deal between manager Phil McIntyre and David Massey’s Island. The first artists on newly formed Safehouse Records are McIntyre clients Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato, who are also co-founders of the label. Lovato, who’s working on her fifth studio album, will release future music on Safehouse through a partnership between Safehouse, Island and Hollywood Records.

The pact covers two albums for Lovato, with Hollywood overseeing promotion on the first and Island/Republic on the second.

Hollywood already has a deal in place with UMG for ex-U.S. territories, which this deal will not affect.

Look a new Lovato single in late summer and an album in the fall.

The announcement contains quotes from all four principals.

"Our focus at Safehouse Records is to put artists in control of their art while providing them the best tools to manage their careers," reads a statement from Jonas and McIntyre. "Through our partnership with Island Records they will also have access to the best marketing and promotion available."

Lovato: "I've worked closely with both Nick and Phil for years and we share the same point of view when it comes to making music. It's incredibly exciting to be part of this new company, where I'm in control of all aspects of my career. I can't wait to share what we're working on."

Massey: “As Island Records continues to grow and evolve, we are very excited to work even more closely with Phil, with whom I have worked for many years. This new association with Safehouse Records is a perfect fit… We're excited to bring these brilliant artists to a whole new level of global success, and we look forward to raising the curtain on other new Safehouse artist signings moving forward.”
